Vendor Spotlight: An Event Less Ordinary

Vendor Spotlight: An Event Less Ordinary

Amy & Carolyn from An Event Less Ordinary are chatting with us today about their business and sharing some fun facts!

Jewell Events Catering: How long have you been in business?
An Event Less Ordinary: We are about to celebrate our 6th year of business in Chicago!

JEC: In no more than 3 words, describe what your company does.
AELO: Create extraordinary events

JEC: What is one thing that sets you/your company apart from others?
AELO: Our goal is to execute an event as closely to our client’s vision as possible, and we’ll never push them in a direction they are uncomfortable with. We’ve also been in the industry for several years now, and have amassed so many great contacts with vendors but we will always remain a boutique business that will work closely with the couple, their family, and the event team to make their special event come off without a hitch.

JEC: Where does your inspiration come from?
AELO: The fabulous clients we get to work with and our theatre backgrounds. Putting on productions for 20+ years has helped shape our business in many ways!

JEC: What is one emerging trend for events next year?
AELO: We’re noticing that couples are shying away from doing a lot of traditional elements just because they’re “supposed to”, which is something we absolutely love – we’re seeing colored wedding dresses, centerpieces that aren’t flowers, bridesmen and groomswomen, even Grandma as the flower girl! Our clients are finding amazing ways to make their wedding as unique as they are, and we’re loving it!

JEC: What is the craziest or most fun event you’ve done (no names, just some details!)?
AELO: We recently helped a fantastic couple plan their wedding, and as actors and creative writers, they had the most uniquely personal touches we’ve ever seen. Our favorites – a giant champagne flavored cake shaped like a hamburger, complete with toppings, and a cake topper representing the couple as zombies (how they first met!). Plus a bridal bouquet that was handmade and chockfull of personal memories made from notes, scripts and photos from the couple’s life together. Amazing!

JEC: What is one thing you wish everyone knew about your business?
AELO: We can coordinate any type of event you can thank of, and there are only five of us! We work with our clients on a personal level to make their events extraordinary!

JEC: What is the best piece of advice you can give someone planning an event?
AELO: Relax! Don’t worry too much about what others may think and have the event that represents you and your relationship.

JEC: What is your favorite “hidden gem” restaurant in Chicago?
AELO: Runa on North Ave. It’s relatively new, the sushi is fantastic and the oysters are to die for.

JEC: What is your favorite part about being in the industry?
AELO: We get to work with people we really truly like and enjoy being around while doing something we’re incredibly passionate about.

JEC: If you were a type of food, what would you by and why?
AELO: Sushi, at AELO, we sort of treat it like a reward! Great events and promotions are celebrated with a sushi dinner every time:)

Thanks again Carolyn and Amy!
