01 Apr Event Recap: Radiology Society Adds Gala to Annual Meeting
The Society of Interventional Radiology held its annual Scientific Meeting at McCormick Place from Saturday through Thursday. On Sunday night, the group hosted its first-ever gala at the Field Museum. With the purpose of raising funds and creating awareness for the society, the gala drew more than 200 medical professionals and had a fitting “Night at the Museum” theme.
The Virginia-based society tapped AnaCristina Aguirre, owner of Deseo Events, to design the gala and oversee on-the-ground logistics. “It was the society’s first event and they really wanted to create an impression on their V.I.P. guests,” she said. “It was very high-end.”
To create an elegant vibe, Kehoe Designs topped dinner tables with white orchids, calla lilies, and candles floating amid flower petals. Frost’s lighting scheme illuminated the museum’s columns and filled its domes with colorful, patterned projections. Jewell’s three-course dinner included a trio of grilled scallops, three-tomato soup, and a goat-cheese salad with vanilla dressing; grilled beef tenderloin and mustard-glazed salmon; and berry pudding garnished with a tuille-cookie butterfly and edible pansies.
Live and silent auctions took place, offering prizes that included trips to Hollywood, Greece, and the Sundance Film Festival in Utah. The gala raised around $300,000 for the society’s educational programs.
